Opened in the summer of 2022 and fully operational during 2023, the
new painting department is just the latest in a series of internal implementations that Simex has prepared to improve the quality of its production line. The decision to completely insource the department started from the need to have
direct control over the supply chain, so as to be able to carefully monitor every aspect, making any corrections in real time.
A second reason is of a logistical nature, to
increase the efficiency of the finished product. Simex is now able to plan and optimize production based on its needs, reducing downtime between one phase and the next.
The department is essentially divided into
three areas:
preparation, painting and quality control. During preparation, the
components are hung, sandblasted, masked and sealed. Then we continue with painting, with
customized primer and finishing cycles depending on the type of equipment and components, to ensure the best adhesion quality. Finally,
the process ends with quality control, with specific tests before the material can be taken to assembly. The department currently has 12 dedicated people, divided by processing phase. Each person is vertical in their own role but everyone is aware of the work of the others so they can be interchangeable and flexible if necessary.
With production at full speed, the new
Simex painting department completes up to 30 equipment per day, approximately 60% more than the capacity of the previous system. This has allowed for better supply of the painted product to assembly, with a consequent reduction in delivery times. Furthermore, the severe quality control, conducted internally, prevents defective or imperfect products from continuing in the production chain.
